Child Restraint Systems In Cars
Did you know that having a suitable child restraint system can reduce child injuries by up to 75% in the event of an accident? It does not matter if you go shopping with your children in the car, take them to school or go for a walk, the little one must always be protected and the best way to guarantee their safety is to have the most appropriate child restraint system for their age and stature, as well as following the law that governs its use to the letter.
How have child restraint systems evolved?
When the first proper child restraint systems emerged in 1930, their function was far from that of today. The first car seats were created to keep children calm in their seat and prevent them from disturbing the driver during the journey.
Thirty years later, in the 1960s, a Swiss designer began researching how to ensure that car seats are safer and protect children in the event of a collision. The first model turned out to be a total failure on the market as parents were unaware of the risks their children ran on the road.
However, after years of campaigns to educate parents about the importance of their use, together with the implementation of specific regulations by governments, from 1985 child car seats became an indispensable accessory.
Parallel to increasing social awareness, car seats were also gaining in safety and new measures were passed to regulate their design, manufacture and use. In this way, it gave way to approved child restraint systems according to the child’s age and weight and, more recently, to those regulated by the child’s height.
